GOOD SELF

1. Subjugating one’s soul (fighting desires and every inclination that goes against the Quran/Sunnah)

2. ⁠Having a pure heart

3. ⁠Sincerity to the Ummah and wanting only good for others

4. ⁠Humbling ourselves

May Allah give us these characteristics. Ameen

Habīb Ibn Abī Thābit رحمه الله said: "From the good character of a man is that he speaks to his companion while he is smiling."

Al-Fudayl ibn 'lyäd:

"I used to write my sins on a wall in my house. Every time I passed by it, I would read it and humble myself."

Al Fudayl Ibn Iyaadh, May Allah have mercy on him. He was an Imam from amongst the Salaf. And before that he was a highway robber. He would rob caravans. One day while he was climbing a wall to look at one, he heard the verses from Surat Hadid being recited:

“Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism) to be affected by Allah's Reminder (this Qur'an), and that which has been revealed of the truth, lest they become as those who received the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] before (i.e. Jews and Christians), and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened? And many of them were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). “ 57:16

And he repented from his life of crime, made Hijrah, and sought knowledge.
